Cool Keyboard Shortcuts
Friday, July 11, 2008 12:27Yesterday, I was surfing some forums and found out this really cool list of keyboard shortcuts for Windows and thought of sharing with you guys and here it goes…
CTRL+C – This is the famous one, most of the people out there know it, it is used to copy text or files.
CTRL+X – This too is famous one, used to cut text or files when moving.
CTRL+V – This is the paste text or file shortcut, usually used after you copy or cut any text or file.
CTRL+Z – This is the undo shortcut key, usually helpful when you accidentally remove any text or file.
SHIFT+DELETE – It is new for me and I think most of the people might not know its function. It is used while deleting any file permanently and the file you want to delete does not needs to deleted from the recycle bin again.
CTRL - while selecting multiple files or selecting a text.
CTRL+SHIFT - it is helpful while selecting some list or number of files that are arrange in any particular order.
F2 – helps renaming any file.
CTRL+RIGHT ARROW – To move the insertion point to the beginning of the next word while writing any text.
CTRL+LEFT ARROW – functions pretty much like the previous one but moves the insertion point to the beginning of the previous word.
CTRL+DOWN ARROW – This moves the insertion point to the beginning of the next paragraph.
CTRL+UP ARROW – This moves the insertion point to the beginning of the previous paragraph.
CTRL+SHIFT with any of the arrow keys – It highlights who whole line in a text after or before the insertion point, depends on the arrow key you hit.
CTRL+A – This too is a popular one with which you can select all the text or files.
F3 key – Brings up the search tool for files or folders.
ALT+ENTER while selecting any file or folder – It displays the properties.
ALT+F4 – This is popular too… used number of times closing any folders or any active program.
ALT+SPACEBAR – This opens the shortcut menu of the active window.
ALT+TAB – This key discovery made a lot of my things go easy, it helps switching between the open items.
ALT+ESC – To cycle through items in the order that they had been opened
F6 key - Cycle through the screen elements in a window or on the desktop.
F4 key – It display the Address bar list in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
SHIFT+F10 - Display the shortcut menu for the selected item.
ALT+SPACEBAR - Display the System menu for the active window.
CTRL+ESC – Pops up the Start menu
F10 key - selects the menu bar in the active program.
F5 key - Update the active window or refreshes the page if used in Internet Explorer.
BACKSPACE – Not removing text but view the folder one level up in My Computer.
SHIFT when you insert a CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive – This too helped my a lot, as when you put in the CD, it stops the autoplay, which sometimes it really annoying.
Now the following ones relate the Windows key on your keyboard:
Windows Logo - Display or hide the Start menu.
Windows Logo+D - Display the desktop, now you don’t have to find your “show your desktop button” anymore.
Windows Logo+M - Minimizes all of the windows.
Windows Logo+SHIFT+M - Restore the minimized windows.
Windows Logo+E - Open My Computer.
Windows Logo+F - Search for a file or a folder.
Windows Logo+R - Open the Run dialog box.
Windows Logo+U - Open Utility Manager.
