Must Try Google Apps

Earlier I wrote couple of posts on Gmail on 3 Gmail Lab features to try out and Adding HTML signature to your send emails. I found some really interesting apps for Google today and thought of sharing with you guys so here they goes…

First trick lets you create a Quick Link for your Gmail inbox so the next time you open your Gmail, you don’t need to get bothered by the read messages that are already there. If you like archiving your read emails, then you won need this trick.

To do that, you just need to go to the setting page in your Gmail account and check the enable box after the Quicklinks, and then save changes to complete. Now search in your Gmail account for “in:box is:unread” (without adding the quotes) and hit enter, you will be displayed a list of email that are in your inbox and are unread. While you are doing this, you might have noticed a small box like in the screen shot below.

Click the Add Quick Link on the box that appears write in “Unread” for the title and approve and when next time you sign in, you can easily use your quick link to display your unread email. You can use the search the name your frequent mailer and create a quick link for that. Its that easy. Also, there is another interesting trick on adding your other email account to Gmail.

Another interesting Google tip I found out was finding images from a specific site. Next time you want to search any image from a site, use “site:” (without the quotes) following by the site url to find images from that site, like if you want to search images from my blog you will type in “site:http://wwwgravityblue.com” and hit enter. You can look more on my post for better searching on Google.

Opening a page which appears in some other language is always annoying, well not anymore, you can use your trusty Google Toolbar for Firefox to get the non English pages translated to English. Once you install the toolbar, there is a button Translate on the tool bar, you just have to click that and click on “Translate into English” and you are done.

Making a custom search Engine on Google is awesome. A must try. That’s what the title says too… Google lets you use its services and make a custom search engine of your choice. Let’s get to it.
To begin with you, you need to compile a list of sites that you wan to include your search result from. Once you are done with that, open Google Custom Search Engine service and hit the create button. Name your Custom search engine, ill name it Gravity Search, and writing down the urls you want the search engine to look for results from while leaving the keywords section empty. Hit the next button and then Finish. Now you can visit your custom made search engine from your dashboard and enter any thing you want search. Make sure the keyword which you put in for search should have something relevant to the sites you have used, other wise the search results won’t appear. Check out the screenshot below.

This is for all of you guys who miss Google Answers which died a long time back well, I found an interesting alternative to that. It just works like Google Answers, it is Uclue. So if you missed using Google Answers well you wont now, it works just like Google Answers, I love it myself.
