Install Windows XP On Windows Vista
Most of you guys out there have experienced this that when you try installing Windows XP on Vista, the installation fails telling you that an updated version of Windows is installed and then you have to format your hard drive to first remove the pre-existing Windows Vista so that you can install a fresh copy of Windows XP.
Well, I have the solution for you guys, with which you wont need any formatting of your hard drive or your data being lost. There is a tool i found called Virtual PC from Microsoft, with which you can easily install Windows XP on Windows Vista.
With this simple software, it creates a virtual environment within your Vista running PC, which means you wont need any creation of separate partition on your hard drive or format it for the installation.
To begin with, you need to download the software Virtual PC. Click Here.
Once the download is complete, install it so that you are ready to create your virtual Windows XP machine.
Now, run Virual PC and click New button. A new virtual machine wizard will appear.
Now, give it a name like My Virtual Windows XP. Then, select Windows XP on the screen from the list of Operating Systems. Then select the amount of RAM you want Windows XP to use, if you are using 2GB RAM, allot around 500 MB RAM for it. It is the total amount of RAM which you want to allot to the virtual Windows XP you are creating.
Now select to create a new Virtual hard disk. This hard disk will be created under a file, so you dont need to worry about a seperate partition being created. Select the path and size of the hard drive, I would recommend a minimum of 5GB space.
Now, most of the job is almost complete, the virtual environment for the installation of Windows XP is complete, and now you are ready for the installation.
Once the virtual environment is complete, click the name you created, and select start and it will launch the virtual environment.
Now, you will need a Windows XP installation CD with the serial number. Now in the window, click on CD, select the path and just press enter and your job is done! Windows XP installation will begin on your virtual machine.
