Secure Your Home Network
If you neighbor has been leeching off your home network and messing around will the things you have shared over the network, then its about time you add protection to your home network will the three following things I am about to share.Through this tutorial, I will guide you through on setting up your router settings to enable maximum protection, by turning off SSID broadcasting, allowing only certain MAC addresses and enable the encryption.
Turning off SSID broadcasting
Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and hit Enter. You will be prompted to enter your username and password to login. The default username is admin and the default password is password, if you haven’t changed it off course.
Now, once your in the settings page of your router, lets begin with the first security tip of turning off SSID broadcasting. This will ensure that when people search for a network to connect to, they will not see yours in the list as your network is not being broadcasting.
To turn off SSID broadcasting, go to Advanced Wireless Settings and uncheck the Enable SSID Broadcast button.

Restrict MAC addresses
Within the same settings page, you can click on the button Setup Access List. Then you will be prompted to add MAC address of the devices you want to allow connection to. All you have to do is add the device name and type in the MAC address. Also, Turn on Access Control when you make the name and MAC entries.
To find your MAC address, go to start menu and click Run. Type in cmd and you will see the command prompt. Type in ipconfig/all and from the list which will appear, your physical address is your MAC address.
Enable Encryption
Go to Wireless Settings, here you will find security options. You can choose from WEP or WPA encryption for your network. I would suggest using WPA encryption. In order to do that, enter Passphrase to generate the security key. This key is the password for all the devices which tries to connect to your network through the router.

And now your network is secure. To enable networking on the new settings you did, you have to setup a new network from the device and you will need to know the network name and the security key you saw when you entered the passphrase, just follow the steps through and you will easily setup your secure home network
