With Samsung and other mobile giants saturating the mobile phone Industry with several high-end mobile gadgets, it was time that Apple hits back.

The much awaited and anticipated Apple’s mobile monster, the Apple iPhone returns, this time with a bunch of staggering upgrades most of which have already been leaked out. The question however still remains… Are they enough?

iPhone returns to the ring with several mouth watering upgrades both on the inside and out. Starting from the software, the iPhone 2009 or iPhone 3GS (as it is being called) will debut with the all new iPhone Operating System (O.S.) 3.0 which will be covering most of the loopholes of the previous generation O.S. The new O.S will add about a 100 new features to its portfolio. For the first time on iPhone 2009, Cut/copy/paste will now be available to its privileged users. Users can now cut and copy texts from one application to another. For instance, you can now cut/copy text from your notes and paste it in your text message or email and send it. You would also be able to undo as well.

Now you would be able to synchronize your notes to your Mac or PC using iTunes. Wi-Fi auto log in would allow one to automatically connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi when you enter and leave a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Audio/video streaming capability would allow users to watch videos online. Bluetooth capabilities have also been considerably enhanced. The iPhone would now be able to connect to stereo bluetooth headset device and stereo bluetooth speakers.

Also,the iPhone will now have the power of P2P connectivity, enabling P2P games and other P2P applications.

MMS support has finally been added to its résumé which would allow the iPhone 2009 to send and receive multimedia messages. A voice memos application has now been added which would be used to record audio files.

Video recording capability is still not a certainty and the rumors suggest a basic 15fps recording capability which is quiet a shame for a specs sheet that commendable. As per Apple strategy, we expect that there would be no memory card extension capability on the new iPhone aswell.

iPhone O.S 3.0 will be launched this summer and will be also available for iPhone 3G, iPhone and the iTouch. The SDK in the iPhone 3.0 will host 1000 new APIs including, in app email, iPod library access and in game voice.

Coming towards the hardware, the iPhone 2009 is rumored to have a 600MHz CPU (currently 400MHz), 256MB RAM (currently 128MB), 32GB internal memory (currently a maximum of 16GB), a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus snapper, digital compass and FM radio. A new 3.7 inches AMOLED display is also expected to be on board with a black frame surrounding it. The headphone jack moves to the bottom and the power button moves to the top left from its original position. And there is a new side key on the right (perhaps a camera key). A digital compass is also expected to be on board to compliment the GPS receiver.

The back should now be matte (not the slippery fingerprint nightmare found in iPhone 3G). The official specs sheet is due on the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2009 and all these features are expected to be unveiled on iPhone 2009 on 17th July, 2009.

Though Apple has worked pretty hard to develop and groom their monster to battle it out once again but it seems that this godzilla is not quite upto the competition. With the mobile phone industry now boosting a 12mp camera phone, a 3.2 mega pixel camera on the iPhone seems disappointing and a no flash is even more disturbing.

Though the new iPhone still has some rough corners but it has capitalized on its previous loopholes and it is rather incorrect to come to a decision this early. The iPhone 2009 is expected to hit this summer and only then we will know, how big an impression does this monster make on its return.
