Use USB Drive As RAM

doughnutusbI found this really cool trick when i was checking on my PC settings and came to know that i can add virtual RAM to my PC by using extra disk space. So, my 4 GB USB drive which i hardly use, came to work at last and now i use it as a virtual RAM in Windows XP. And yeah… That is not a donut but a working USB drive! :-D

To begin with, insert the USB drive you want to use as the virtual RAM to the USB port. Make sure you don’t have any important data on your USB drive. Rename it, RAM. Right click on the drive and select format. Select quick format option and select NTFS from file system. This will remove all the data from the USB and make the USB good as new to be used as RAM.

Now, right click on My Computer and select properties. Select the Advance tab and under Performace heading, select Settings.

A new dialogue box will appear, select Advance tab and under Virtual memory heading, select Change and you will see something like this:

ram

Highlight RAM from the list that appears and select the Custom Size option and type in the minimum and maximum values for the size. If you are using a 4 GB USB, then you can type in 3900 and click OK.

And you are done. Next time you restart your computer, the virtual RAM will be fully functional!
