Recover Deleted Pictures From Digital Camera

digicamA week back me and my friends went out for a road trip to the mountains and i was supposed to get my digital camera with me. When i checked the memory status on my camera memory card, it showed 90% used. So, i removed the old pictures i had on the memory card and thought i had already copied them to my hard drive on computer which i did not and that’s i was so

I tried searching everywhere on the web to find something that can recover my deleted pictures from the digital camera and after number of tries to find the right software who actually worked, I settled on PC Inspector Smart Recovery.

This freeware came really handy to recover almost all the pictures I deleted accidentally from the memory card, while others recovered corrupt pictures and half the pictures went missing. I recovered a few videos which were deleted a long time back from my USB drive and got them recovered. This windows only software comes with a fairly small size of 6.1 MB.

Here is a list of formats and digital camera’s with which you can use the software to recover data from it:

JPG, AMR, TIF, BMP, GIF, AVI, MOV, WAV, DSS, MP4, Canon (.crw) , Fuji (.raf) , RICOH (.raw), Olympus E-XX (.orf), Olympus C5050 (.orf), Nokia (3gp), Kodak (.dcr), Minolta (.mrw), Nikon D1H/D1X (.nef), Nikon D2H/D2X (.nef), Nikon E5000/E5700 (.nef), Konica Minolta, Sigma – Foveon (.x3f).

Here is how you need to proceed with the application to recover your deleted pictures:

- Once you download and install the application, you need to connect your camera, or your memory card with your computer.
- Start the application PC Inspector Smart Recovery and select the drive letter of the memory card from the menu.
- Select the format type you want to recover from the menu or enhanced options for the JPG formats only. Or you can select automatic settings which will recognize the format on its own. You can select the With Thumbnails/Without Thumbnails options depending on, if your pictures had thumbnails.
- Now select the folder you want the recovered pictures to be saved and I would suggest creating a separate folder because a lot of pictures will be recovered which might create a lot of mess.
- Click Start, and the progress bar will show you the progress through the process.

You select different search modes from Fast Mode or the Intensive Mode. Fast Mode, default mode, will make the scan really quick and the recover ratio might not be good. While the Intensive Mode takes a lot longer for the process to complete but you will notice a huge increase in the amount of recovered pictures.

You can also use the Check Media feature to check your memory card for any errors under Menu > Functions.

So, when the application completed the intense scan on my 2GB memory card it recovered almost all of the pictures, and I can safely say from around 180 deleted pictures, it could not recover 8 pictures as far as I remember, which is a really impressive ratio. Although it took around 120 minutes for the complete scan but at the end, I recovered almost all of the pictures.
