Firefox released their latest version Firefox 3.5, which features a lot of new security fixes, also allows you to customize firefox really easy and the private browsing feature with which you can browse privately and your browsing history will not be shared to others using firefox.

One annoying thing i noticed in Firefox 3.5 was the automatic virus scan which initiates itself as the download completes and when you are downloading alot of files it takes years to scan to the file so we can use it. I tried going through the settings to disable this feature but could not, so today i found the other way round to disable this feature through the config page.

Here is how the virus scan looks like:

- Open a new tab in firefox and type in about:config hit enter. You will be told that editing values might change the stability of firefox. Ignore the warning and click “I’ll be Careful, I promise”, button.

- Now in the filter field type in browser.download.manager.scanWhendone and you will see something like this in the screen shot

- Now double click it. This will change the value to false and disable the automatic virus scan feature

And now the next time you download anything, the automatic virus scan will not show up. I would suggest using an external Anti-virus to scan files you don’t trust.
