Useful Google Chrome Tips

chrome-logoGoogle Chrome, the official web browser from Google has been out now for quite some time now. It is in competition with other web browser giants like Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari, and is quite making its mark in the web browser market to develop its share.

Google Chrome is promised the fastest web browser leaving behind Firefox. With a minimal design and simple interface, it makes Google Chrome a really user friendly browser.

With the increase in Google Chrome’s popularity, Google has been coming out with add-ons to the browser like the themes gallery they introduced earlier, and not only this Google Chrome offers quite useful tips for its users which I compiled today which helps you enhance your browsing experience.

- Disable the recently visited tabs on startup. When ever you start up Google Chrome, it displays six of your most recently visited tabs and if you wish to disable this feature and get a simple start up page or maybe a blank page, you can do that by going to Settings > Options > Basics. Under this select On Startup and select that ever option you prefer.

- Change the default search engine. Google by default is the search engine for Google Chrome and if you prefer Yahoo Search or Bing, you can change the default search engine by going to Setttings > Options > Basics. Under this option you can add any search engine by click the Manage button and select the Add button to enter the name and URL for the search engine.

- Change font and language settings. To change font and language settings in Google Chrome to your desired settings, go to Settings > Options > Minor Tweaks, under Fonts and Language option, select change fonts and language settings button to select the font size or style and add desired languages to Google Chrome.

- Using tabs effectively. Like all other browsers, Google Chrome comes with the feature of tabbed browsing in which different sites can be browsed in the same window, but in a different tab which makes it easy to browse through different sites. You can even drag a tab to the taskbar to create a separate window for the browser or drag the Google Chrome windows to an already opened browser to combine the two windows to one.

- Private browsing in Google Chrome.  To protect your privacy and prevent people using the same computer to view your browsing history you can use the incognito window to browse the web which does not leave any trace of your browsing history. Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open the incognito window.

- View History. In Google Chrome, you won’t find the history menu; instead, Google Chrome developers have integrated this feature in the Back button. Press and hold the Back button on Google Chrome, your recently browsed web sites will be displayed and you can click Show History to view the full history.

- Reopen a recently closed tab. If you accidentally closed a tab you did not wish to, you can reopen it by holding Ctrl + Shift + T and your recently closed tab will be reopened. To reopen a recently closed tab in Firefox, check out our post here.

- Automatic URL suggestions. If you are not sure of a URL you want to visit, you can use the URL suggestion tool in Google Chrome to help you suggest the URL. When you type in a few words, Google Chrome will display a list of related URL you might be looking for. To enable this feature, right click on the address bar > Edit Search Engines > Uncheck “Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs entered in the address bar”
