Although the release of Windows 7 is expected on 22 October but if you have upgraded to the latest version of Windows, but there are softwares or application which are not supported by Windows 7 yet, so can consider using the xp mode in windows 7.

XP mode in windows 7 enables you to create a virtually parallel operating system to Windows 7 and does not changes your initial operating which in this case is Windows 7.

To start off using XP mode in windows 7, there are few of the prerequisites you must consider.

- Atleast 2 GB of RAM is recommended for the process cause installing two operating systems on a PC and use them in parallel requires a lot of memory resources.

- 20 MB hard disk space for installing the virtual PC application and additional space of 10 GB of space to install Windows XP.

- Make sure your processor supports hardware virtualization. You can check this in your BIOS. Most the processors support this feature but needs to be enabled. You can use SecurAble to check if your processor supports virtualization.

Now let’s begin with the process once you’ve done the above task. Download and install Windows Virtual PC which powers the XP mode and Windows XP Mode which creates the virtual operating system and enables XP mode in Windows 7.

Once you have downloaded and installed those applications, restart your computer and run Virtual Windows XP. You will be prompted to choose password and tick the box which says Remember credentials.

Now the wizard will guide you through the process and at the end you will setup XP for use. Now when all the process is complete you will see a new window with Virtual Windows XP.

Now your Windows XP is ready for use. First off install a trust Anti Virus from the same windows as you would do your usual Windows XP and make sure when ever the software ask you, for which users you want to install the application, remember to choose All Users.

Now all the applications you install on the Windows XP window will appear in the Windows 7 start menu under Windows Virtual PC > Virtual Windows XP Application Folder.
