Today, 26 July 2010, Acer officially announced new product, Acer Stream smartphone. This new device clearly will help Acer to get a strong position in the mobile phone market. Mentioning just some brief specifications of Acer Stream, the device has a 3.7 inch Amoled screen, 1 GHz processor, Bluetooth 3.0, a five megapixel camera and an 11.2 mm thickness. Clearly this device will be a good competititor against latest attacks of Motorola, Samsung or Nokia. Motorola announced their newest mobile smartphone Motorola Charm on July 7. The device resembles a Blackberry with a 2.8 inch touch screen display. Apple, on July 2,published a press release to new iPhone 4 users about the famous reception problem when gripping the phone in the left hand. Apparently, the problem is not a faulty design of Apple. It seems that Apple had a faulty formula that showed the reception higher than it really is and this causes a high amount of loss in reception when the phone is handled tight in hand. A new solar cell that converts sunlight to energy has been launched in variety of consumer products. The technology used in this is a photosensitive dye to start its energy production which is same as the leaves using chlorophyll to begin photosynthesis. This dye sensitive cell can be used to give power to various devices like e-book readers, cell phone etc. The cell can be found in thin, flexible panels stitched to the reader’s cover in the e-book readers. These panels can be placed in new lines of backpacks and sports bags which will help recharge cell phones and music players.

Mozilla launched its first Firefox browsers for mobile phone users for Nokia’s Maemo. The Firefox for Maemo 5 platform has many interesting features that make it different from other mobile browsers like opera mini. You can get Mozilla Firefox in two of Nokia’s device –N900 and N810. Google is planning to launch movie rental service on YouTube. YouTube is partnering with Sundance films to launch movies at this video sharing website. Initially YouTube is planning to launch five movies and these five movies are:
- Bass Ackwards
- The cove
- One too many mornings
- Homewrecker
- Children of invention
These movies will be available from 31st of January. Apart from these movies YouTube will soon launch more movies. YouTube is still hunting for partner websites and Google is inviting all its partners to participate in this rental service. The partners will be able to broadcast their movies by paying a little rent. Google hopes that this will bring more videos and users to YouTube which is already top viewed tube website on the internet.
Google hops that this service is going to attract a lot of users as people are already fed up by buying DVDs. This will help them to enjoy their favorite movie at any time without any copyright issues.
How successful this service is going to be? This only time will tell.
