Turn Off Auto Play in Windows XP

Each time you insert a CD or connect a flash drive to your computer, an annoying pop up greets you, giving you number of options to choose from, yes that is called the Auto play. For some it is really helpful while choosing the actions they want to easily while for me, it got my pc crashed. How? Well, I connected my friends flash drive to my computer to copy off a movie, and as soon as I was done, I tried access my Hard drive, and a start popup started to appear some thing like open with, asking my a program to associate to and that was a virus.

I know there are number of people out there infected for the same stuff so as today I turned off the Autoplay on my computer, I suggested you to turn it off too, and here is how you can do it.

You may find softwares to disable the auto play but I preferred using the Group Policy Editor to do the job. To begin with, you need to open Run from Start button on your bottom left.

You need to type in “gpedit.msc” (without the quotes) and hit enter. You will see a window of Group Policy Editor.

Then, navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System. Then click on System. Scroll down a little to find “Turn off Autoplay” like shown in the screenshot below.

Now search in your Gmail account for “in:box is:unread” (without adding the quotes) and hit enter, you will be displayed a list of email that are in your inbox and are unread. While you are doing this, you might have noticed a small box like in the screen shot below.

Annoyed By Your Computer? Lets Fix It

Hello readers, I came up with few of the most annoying things on your computer and makes you really irritated each time you use your computer like each time you login to your email inbox, a stupid popup appears asking you remember your password before you check your email, well I have added this and couple of other annoying things and will tell you how to fix them.

Let’s start off with the remembering passwords. As I mentioned before that a pop up really annoying each time you put in your password, well my suggestion would be to go for Firefox 3. It easily remembers your password if you push the remember button and best of all it does not shows an annoying popup. If you don’t want to change your browser, then you may consider using Diceware. It should easily solve your problem.

Reinstalling Windows XP every three months or so is a must job, no matter how much to try using an antivirus and keeping the windows as clean as possible to last longer but for strange reasons it start acting weird or slows down too much. Well, now to avoid those hours of re installing Windows, drivers and softwares, I would suggest using nLite for Windows XP or vLite for Vista. This tool is my personal favourite, it cut down all the installations and customizes your pc easily as you want, from installing all the drivers to the softwares you want to use.

Hello readers, I know you guys have been wondering about my blog being down again for a while, well, there was some hosting issues and are fixed now, so there will not any down time from now on. Also, there a new theme I introduced to the blog, I hope you guys love it. It is clean, with awesome blue on the header, and kind of mac style. It’s cool.

About the topic now. I found this really cool tryout for you guys to embed (hide) any file you want in a JPG image file. You can easily hide your video files, mp3s, any important pdf document, zipped files and anything you want and if anyone opens that jpg file, it will just act as an ordinary image file.

To begin with, you need the file you want to hide and an image jpg file which you want to use (if somebody open the file that image file will preview). Also, if you want multiple files to be hidden in a jpg image file, you may want to zip them and then use it.

Once, you’re done with chosing your files, place both the files in your C: drive and open the command prompt from Start > Programs > Accessories.

Take Screenshots From Your iPhone

Lately, I planned to add another catgory of ‘Apple’ to my blog Gravity Blue, and here I am with the first post which will help you get screenshots from your iPhone. Do subscribe to blog so don’t miss a single bite of the Apple.

For quite sometime, my friend has been wondering how he can take screenshots from his iPhone 2.0, and the answer was really simple. To do that, you just need to hold the Home button and press the top (on/off) button on your iPhone and then, the screen will flash and the screenshot you just took will be saved in your iPhoto library and later you can transfer it to your computer. I couldn’t get hold of the 3G edition so I could not figure out if this tricks work out there. I guess it will be up to my readers to comment and tell the other readers if it really works on the iPhone 3G, I would love it hear about it.
There is another way I found to get screenshot from your iPhone and you do this easily from your computer while your iPhone or iPod Touch is plugged to your computer.

To begin with, you need to get a software iPhone SDK. You will need to have the desktop software tools that comes with the SDK.

Hide Your Hard Drive Partition in My Computer

I found this really cool trick on some forums and tried it on my friend’s computer to make him think that a virus has attacked his pc and now his Drive C: is suddenly gone. Also, I managed to hide his other drive where he kept all his music and movies and was really mad about the virus. It was really fun watching him cursing the virus =D He nearly started to format his pc and fix the virus until I told her that it was a trick and then he was feeling quite stupid =D but it was fun.

I am sharing the same trick with you guys and you too can put it to a cool use. To begin with, you need to download Tweak UI. Now open Tweak UI and go to My Computer and then Drives.

Then from the list that appears, select the drives that you want to hide from the list of drives and you are done. Next time you open your My Computer, the drive you selected will not show up.

<!–more–>If you want the drive to re appear, you can again open Tweak UIand check the unselected drive.
